Health - Chronic & Degenerative Diseases

Chronic and Degenerative Diseases

Chronic and Degenerative diseases like coronary artery diseases, cancer, stroke diabetes, arthritis’s etc are causing a serious health problem in this twenty first century.   What is causing the health problem?  How can we arrest the progress of chronic degenerative disease?  What is role of nutritional supplements in chronic and degenerative diseases?

The evolution of man is by the middle of Paleolithic era (The Stone Age), about 200,000 years ago, and the modern man around 50,000 years ago.  The genetic constitution of man has not changed but evolution of natural & social environment and technology is very fast.  The modern man is having the genetic constitution of the Stone Age man.  It means our genetic constitution is not evolving like our environment and technology evolving.  This imbalance or the effort by our physical constitution to get accustomed to the fast evolving environment is leading to the chronic and degenerative diseases.  For example: - arteriosclerosis, hypertension, cancer, diabetes and obesity.

The chronic and degenerative diseases have strong impact on our lives.  Some diseases can cause bones to break, joints to stiffen up, organ failures and paralysis, and memory loss.  Feeling severe fatigue and pain, constant feeling of exhaustion, body aches, muscle stiffness and pain, insomnia, cognitive dysfunction, irritable bowel syndrome etc are, some symptoms of chronic and degenerative disease and this can significantly diminish a person’s quality of life.  Chronic degenerative disease causes 75% of all deaths at 35 – 69 years of age and 65% at older age.

Dietary lifestyle of industrialized countries is causing chronic and degenerative disease because the food is rich in animal origin.  The hypothesis is that food rich in animal origin has high concentration of plasma cholesterol, which is associated significantly with the increase in chronic and degenerative diseases.  So to prevent the disease we have to consume healthy diet and keep fit.  One recommendation is to control the excess consumption of total fat and saturated fat and consume healthier diet.   Healthier diet consists of whole food, fruits, vegetables, nuts, legumes and whole grain.  To keep fit you have to move around.  A sedentary life leads to illness.  Generally accepted recommendation is 150 minutes of moderate Exercise per week.  Excessive exercise will lead to the production of 'Free Radicals'.  Free radicals will contribute to chronic degenerative diseases and aging process in the body.  For example: - 100 steps per minute or swimming, bicycling etc.  If you want to live longer and enjoy good health well into your old age change to healthier diet and keep fit.

Health – The Oxygen Paradox

Early morning go out to the lawn, take a deep breath till you feel your stomach is full and then exhale by pulling your diaphragm up so your stomach goes inside. Do this ten times. You feel rejuvenated. Why? The fresh air carries a lot of oxygen into your lungs. Your lungs transfer this oxygen into the blood stream. That oxygen is carried by the blood stream to all cells into your body. Inside the cell this oxygen generates energy and life itself.  Oxygen is essential for humans and all true aerobic creatures.  The oxygen we inhale oxidizes food and converts their energy into ATP.  This is the bright side of oxygen.  READ MORE.....
