Homemade Dishes - Erissery

Erissery



Erissery is a thick side dish made with two vegetables and coconut served in sadya.

Ingredients
  • ¼ yam (medium size)
  • 3-4 raw bananas (modhankka/currykka)

Masala mix
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp black pepper powder
  • ½ coconut grated (for milk)
  • 1 stalk curry leaf
  • 1 tsp cumin seed (jeera)
  • Salt to taste

Seasoning
  • ½ tsp mustard seed
  • 1 stalk curry leaf
  • 2-3 dried red chillies
  • ½ coconut greated and mashed

Preparation

Peel the outer dark green rind of raw bananas.  Chop the raw bananas and yam into same sized pieces.  Extract milk from the grated coconut and set aside.

Grind the masala mix into a fine paste.  In the pan heat oil, add the chopped vegetables, masala mix and coconut milk, stir well and cook. Mash the cooked veggies lightly.


In another pan heat oil and add the mustard seed and wait to crackle, add and temper the curry leaf and dried red chillies, add the mashed coconut and sauté.  Add the seasoning to the erissery mix and blend well.  Erissery is ready to serve.  Go To KERALA FEAST
